While
thoughts of holiday color combos—Christmasy red and green or Hanukkah
blue and white are still very much on our minds (and probably tabletop
and wrapping décor), Pantone, the primo authority on color, has just
named it’s 2012 hue of the year.
Drum roll please!
It’s
Tangerine Tango—a cheery and vibrant coral/orange (check out the
swatch). And better get used to it because you’re going to be seeing it
all over—in fashion designers’ spring lines as well as decorative
objects for the home.
It’s
not the easiest color for everyone to wear, so here are some hints on
great ways to wear it without looking like the Great Pumpkin (an
altogether different holiday).
Think spring accessories. A
bright orange handbag, a scarf, or some cute bangle bracelets can add a
welcome pop of color to jazz up stuff you already have.
Give it the complexion test. If
you’re thinking top, blouse or dress, orange can be tricky. Put the
garment right up to your face; look brighter? It’s a winner. If it makes
you look sallow or drab, move on.
Use it as a room accent. Don’t
just think closet updates. A splash of orange in the kitchen—some fun
mugs, a kitchen gadget, or a bright new bowl to keep your weekly supply
of healthy fruit can freshen things up.
